The NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Project is an effort to reanalyze historical data
using state-of-the-art models. The first datasets from the Reanalysis Project
are now available.
NCEP's role
Using a current and fixed (Jan. 1995) version of a data assimilation and
operational forecast model:
- Model Description
- horizontal spectral resolution
- vertical resolution
- time step
- data ingest, qc,
- target schedule, i.e. reanalyze 1 year each calendar month
- Other stuff
NCAR's role
Collect and organize many of the land and marine surface data archives.
Provide these to NCEP along with many observed upper and aircraft observations.
Following the reanalysis processing at NCEP, receive the output archives.
Store the archives in NCAR MSS storage system.
- Input data
- marine surface
- land surface
- raobs, pibal, etc upper air
- aircraft (military and commercial)
- etc
- Output data
- analyses
- forecasts
- qc'ed input data
- spectral restart files
- etc
Reanalysis at other laboratories and universities
Various other reanalysis experiments have been and are being conducted.
See list of other reanalysis projects.
