The TOVS problem will have impact on all reanalysis cdroms that contain 1997-1999 data released prior to Feb 12, 2001. Replacements for 1997, 1998, 1999 annual cdroms are available as of Feb 6, 2002.

Annual Reanalysis CD/DVD Series
This series consist of CDROMs (one per year) from 1950 to 2005 containing a carefully selected subset of fields from most of the major file_types in the complete set. Starting from 2006, a DVD per year continues this series. Please review 2006 DVD content.
NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1948-1998 Monthly Means
A new version of this cdrom came out in Feb 2001. It is part of Bulletin of American Meteorological Society, Feb 2001 issue. The previous version (dated 7/1999) is still available. Both versions are available for purchase.
This CD-ROM contains forty-one (1958-98) years of selected monthly mean fields from the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Project. Several levels of monthly mean heights, temperatures, winds, specific humidity and vertical velocity are included, together with precipitation, surface and top of the atmosphere fluxes, and near-surface fields. A monthly climatology of these fields averaged over 1979-1998 is included. For some fields (500 and 700 mb heights, 700 mb temperatures, 200 and 850 mb winds, sea level pressure and surface temperatures (SST)) we have included fifty-one years (1948-98). Independent estimates of precipitation and olr globally (1979-98) and precipitation and surface air temperature over the U.S. (1948-98) are included, as are grids of the number of different types of observation by month (1946-98). A comprehensive interactive menu is provided to plot the fields on the CD-ROM. README file.
NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1979-1996 Global Synoptic Time Series (Dated 9/1997)
This CD-ROM contains once-daily global time series of geopotential height at 1000mb and 500mb, winds at 850mb and 200mb, and 500mb vertical velocity for 1979-96 together with a daily climatology of these fields averaged over 1979-95 from the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Project. Like the annual cdroms, this cdrom uses GrADS software and works on PC's and Unix workstations. Interested users are encouraged to read its README file.
NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Climatology CDROM in BAMS March 1996 issue
This CDROM contains climatologies (13-year average monthly fields), monthly fields (for each of the 13 years), selected daily fields for 1993 and selected observed fields. The 13 years are from 1982 to 1994. This CDROM comes with Bulletin of American Meteorological Society, March 1996 issue. Your local library or a nearest AMS member is the best source to locate this CDROM. Its contents are also on line at NCEP for downloading. Detailed updates of this CDROM (such as: problems, corrections, etc. ) are on line at BAMS-UPDATES.
