We use 1998JAN04 1200 UTC (98010412) as an example.
Find data - Locate p-G00155 line (with data between 19980103 and 19980105) in
Data-Type of VSN's for MAPS mords.
The MAPS molts is in p-G00159 line. The vsns to get are /DSS/G00155 and /DSS/G00159 from
Mass Storage System (MSS).
Get data - To read G00155 and G00159 back from MSS, make sure you have enough disk space.
Then issue 'msread -fBI G00155 /DSS/G00155' and 'msread -fBI G00159 /DSS/G00159'.
The local disk files retrieved (G00155 and G00159) are unix tar files with a fixed
blocksize of 32768 bytes. If you are not sure what individual data files in tar files to
extract, make tar lists such as 'tar tvf G00155 > G00155.tarlst'. Or, you can browse
the entire tar lists of the year from Complete Tar Lists.
Say you want to extract 9800412009800.grib and 9800412009900.grib data. The following tar
command will do: 'tar xvf G00155 98004/9800412009800.grib 98004/9800412009900.grib'
and a subdirectory `98004' will be created to contain 9800412009800.grib and
9800412009900.grib files.
Place an order - Once you know the G#'s, you may place an order
to reqest the data to be put on
various media or via ftp for a fee. We
send the end-products out by first class mail (domestic), or air mail (foreign), or by Federal
Express service. We strongly suggest to use Federal Express international service for foreign
destinations. The total cost of an order includes data movement charge, cost of media and shipping
charge.
