There were also some slight affects on the temperatures in some areas at the same levels. This should only affect ds111.0 and ds111.2. ECMWF provided us with replacement data for ds111.0, however as of May 23, 2000, we have NOT received any replacement data for ds111.2. but we hope to receive the replacement data within the next few months. The replacement data for the period was produced by reruns performed by the research department at ECMWF. Note that there may be some inconsistencies between the earlier data and the replacement data. We have archived both the original data and the replacement data, however our primary archive only contains the replacement data. I will provide both versions to anyone interested. ECMWF will be describing the problem in the next official ECMWF newsletter. I will have a copy of it and would be more than happy to supply a copy to anyone interested. As noted, this should only affect ds111.0 and ds111.2, however, if you notice any problems with any of the data or have any questions, please contact Joey Comeaux at joey@ucar.edu. ============================================================================ NEW ECMWF dataset available at DSS We have started archiving a new ECMWF dataset. The name of the dataset is ds111.6 ECMWF TOGA GLOBAL EXTENSION FIELDS, PRECIPITATION and it contains total precipitation (parm=228) for Jan 01, 1991 thru Dec 31, 1999. This set also contains the following parameters for all of 1999 : PARM DESCRIPTION 142 Large scale precipitation m 143 Convective precipitation m 144 Snow fall m(of water equivalent) 145 Boundary layer dissipation W m**-2 s 146 Surface sensible heat flux W m**-2 s 147 Surface latent heat flux W m**-2 s 169 Surface solar radiation downwards W m**-2 s 175 Surface thermal radiation downwards W m**-2 s 176 Surface solar radiation W m**-2 s 177 Surface thermal radiation W m**-2 s 178 Top solar radiation W m**-2 s 179 Top thermal radiation W m**-2 s 180 East/West surface stress N m**-2 s 181 North/South surface stress N m**-2 s 182 Evaporation m (of water) 195 Lat. component of gravity wave stress N m**-2 s 196 Meridional component gravity wave stress N m**-2 s All of the data is on the N80 gaussian grid. All of the fields appear to be 24 hour accumulations over the forecast period valid from 12 hours to 36 hours after the initial period of the model run. Note that there is only one output time per day, at 12Z. The record length for this data is 25,632 bytes. The new data files (all in the /DSS/ directory on the MSS) are: Y55000 TOTAL PRECIPITATION, 1991JAN01 - 1994NOV11 Y55001 TOTAL PRECIPITATION, 1994NOV12 - 1998OCT21 Y55002 TOTAL PRECIPITATION, 1998OCT22 - 1998DEC31 Y54996 CONTAINS ALL VARIABLES FOR JAN-MAR, 1999 Y54997 CONTAINS ALL VARIABLES FOR APR-JUN, 1999 Y54998 CONTAINS ALL VARIABLES FOR JUL-SEP, 1999 Y54999 CONTAINS ALL VARIABLES FOR OCT-DEC, 1999 ============================================================================ Advanced Operational Analysis datasets (ds111.0, .1, .3) updated through December 1999 The Advanced Operational Analysis datasets (ds111.0, .1, .3) have been updated with the 1999 data. You can obtain the listing of the volume serial numbers containing the data from the file datasets/ds111.x/MASTER (where x is 0, 1, or 3, depending on the particular dataset), via anonymous FTP to ncardata.ucar.edu. Or, use a WWW browser and open the URL http://www.ucar.edu/dss/datasets/ds111.x.html as above. This file is also on the Mass Store under the name /DSS/D/DS111x. Note that the update schedule for these datasets should be changing. We will be updating these datasets twice a year now, around September for the 1st half the year and March for the last half of the previous year. If there is enough interest, we may even change to quarterly updates. The future updates should not take as long as this one has. A few changes have been made to the archive by ECMWF. These are : ds111.0 Starting April 09, levels for 20mb, 7mb, 5mb, 3mb, 2mb and 1mb have been added to the archive, bringing the total grid count per day to 672 (i.e. 8 variables X 21 levels X 4 times per day) ds111.1 Starting on Oct. 12, Total column ozone has been added to the archive The data files (all in the /DSS/ directory on the MSS) are: ds111.0 Note again the data for Oct 12, 1999 thru Dec 31, 1999 for this dataset contain the replacement data provided by ECMWF. You can obtain the listing of the volume serial numbers containing the data from the file datasets/ds111.2/MASTER via anonymous FTP to ncardata.ucar.edu. Or, use a WWW browser and open the URL http://www.scd.ucar.edu/dss/datasets/ds111.2.html. This file is also on the Mass Store under the name /DSS/D/DS1112. Note again that we continue to receive updates for this dataset on a monthly basis, usually around the 10th of the next month. I will not send out a newsletter for each update. I suggest either checking the web site or contacting me via email to find out if and when the update will be available for the previous month. As earlier, the update schedule could change without notice. The new data files (all in the /DSS/ directory on the MSS) are: Please once again take notice of the model problems with this data from above. The Oct, 1999 thru April, 2000 files for this dataset have NOT been corrected. I will supply the corrected data as soon as it is available. The web pages will be totally different and hopefully easier to use. The file structure in the ftp area will also be changing. I hope this does not cause to many problems. ============================================================================ If you would like to be taken off this mailing list, please contact me.
