	Basic Consolidated dataset (ds111.2) updated through September 1998

The Basic Consolidated Dataset (ds111.2) has been updated with the third
quarter of 1998 data.  You can obtain the listing of the volume serial 
numbers containing the data from the file datasets/ds111.2/MASTER
via anonymous FTP to ncardata.ucar.edu.  Or, use a WWW browser and open 
the URL http://www.ucar.edu/dss/datasets/ds111.2.html.  This file is also 
on the Mass Store under the name /DSS/D/DS1112.  

I apologize for the delay;  ECMWF has changed formats again, and NCDC,
who pass this data along to us, had problems reading it.  They should
be getting the fourth quarter data soon, and I hope we'll get it without
too much delay.

Beginning with July 1998, this dataset has a new blocksize of 21152 bytes.

The data files (all in the /DSS/ directory on the MSS) are:

 Y48212         1998JUL
 Y48213         1998AUG
 Y48214         1998SEP

The 1998 Advanced Operational Archive has been ordered from ECMWF.
We should be getting it sometime late this month.  A note will be sent
out when it's ready.

	Upcoming changes at NCAR

I will be leaving my job here in Data Support either at the end of February
or in the beginning of March.  We have not yet determined who in DSS will
take over the responsibility for the ECMWF datasets, but whoever it is
will continue these email bulletins.
