	Basic Consolidated Dataset (ds111.2) updated through March 1993

We have finally received the latest update to ds111.2.  If you are planning 
to use the data on NCAR's Cray, you can obtain the listing of the volume 
serial numbers containing the data from the file datasets/ds111.2/MASTER, 
via anonymous FTP to ncardata.ucar.edu.  This file is also on the Mass Store 
under the name /DSS/D/DS1112.

	Year-month means dataset (ds111.5) updated through December 1992

Monthly mean values have been computed for the entire year of 1992 and
added to the ds111.5 dataset, replacing the files which previously contained
only January - September 1992.  The 0Z means are in /DSS/Y14885 and the
12Z means are in /DSS/Y14886.  You can obtain the complete listing of the 
volume serial numbers containing the data from the file 
datasets/ds111.5/MASTER, via anonymous FTP to ncardata.ucar.edu.  This file is 
also on the Mass Store under the name /DSS/D/DS1115.

The partial year version did not include the 925 mb level data (which ECMWF
began providing in January 1992), but the new full-year files do contain
data for this level.

	Format change to year-month means dataset (ds111.5)

An error in the representation of the data level (for upper-air data) was 
found and corrected.  Since the files needed to be rewritten, the
record length was also changed to match the record length used in ds111.2.
If you are using this dataset on another computer, and find that your code 
no longer works, check the record length -- it should be 10560 bytes.
Users on the Cray should see no differences.

	Error in software for extracting grids has been fixed

A bug in the "select" code in the "software" subdirectories of ds111.0 
and ds111.2 was fixed.  These programs should work ok now.

	Decision yet to be made on Advanced Operational Analysis datasets

Our contract with ECMWF to receive the Advanced Operational Analysis
datasets (ds111.0, ds111.1, ds111.3) expired at the end of December, 1992.
At this point, a decision has not yet been made as to whether to buy
another year's worth of data.  If you would like to use 1993 data from this
archive, please contact Roy Jenne at 303/497-1215.  We will probably only
purchase the data from ECMWF if there is sufficient demand, and if we
can get enough funding assistance.
