                       Blended Land and SST Definition

     LandSST describes University of East Anglia 5 degree area land
     surface temperature anomalies combined with 5 degree area MOHSST6
     sea surface temperature anomalies with respect to 1961 to 1990
     climatology. The period of the data is 1851-1995.

     The data set is based on work described by Jones, P.D., 1994 (See
     "Documents - Research Papers" Ref 4) and Parker, D.E. et al., 1995
     (See "Documents - Research Papers" Ref 3).
