Pilot Chart Summary Data (NCDC TD-9757)

These one-degree and five-degree quadrangle summaries give the observation count for an eight-point "wind rose", and means and standard deviations for: wind speed, pressure, air temperature, wet-bulb temperature, sea surface temperature, air-sea temperature difference, and wave height. Also included are light and heavy superstructure icing potential and frequency of gales. The general period summarized is 1850 to 1970, but the actual period summarized varies by ocean basin. These long-term monthly averages were used to produce the U.S. Navy Marine Climatic Atlas.
