WGRIB is a program to manipulate, inventory and decode GRIB data files. The program is known to run on SUN, SGI, IBM, CRAY, PCs running Windows and DOS, LINUX and Macs and most likely others. The source code is written in C, so you need a C compiler to create the executable command line program. Compiled versions are available for Macs, PC MS-DOS and Windows systems and SUNOS platforms. For much more information on WGRIB and to download the latest version, please see the official WGRIB web page.

WGRIB will only decode GRIB Edition 1. All of the ERA15 and ERA40 data is GRIB Edition 1. The ECMWF Operational Model output (ds111.x) is Edition 1 starting in July, 1993. All earlier data is Edition 0. Please use one of the other options noted above for decoding the pre July, 1993 Operational Model output.
